About

Lynn Koning
Founder & Resident Potter

Play in the Clay Studio was founded in 2014 by local potter Lynn Koning and has been a creative hub at Dothan’s Cultural Arts Center ever since. Located in the Messy Space building, our studio was born from Lynn’s transition from wallpapering to becoming a full-time potter. As our Resident Potter, Lynn also launched the Empty Bowls sale in Dothan early in her pottery career, using her craft to support the community.

Our studio is fully equipped for pottery enthusiasts of all levels. We have six pottery wheels, a broad selection of glazes, a variety of mid-range stoneware clays, and all the tools needed to bring your creations to life. We fire our Skutt kiln at cone 05 for bisque and cone 6 for glaze, and we’re excited to be building a raku kiln in the near future to expand our offerings.

Keeping the studio running smoothly is a team effort. Our dedicated volunteers assist with everything from kiln firing, construction projects, keeping the studio tidy, to managing our social media presence. Their hard work and passion help us maintain a welcoming and creative environment for everyone who visits.
