Play in the Clay Studio is open:
- Wednesdays 10:00 – 11:30 am
- Thursdays 6:00 – 7:30 pm
- Our team is currently working hard to expand studio hours. Your creativity is important to us and we want to provide more opportunities for you to explore pottery.
Whether you’re just starting out, have previous pottery experience, or are in search of a studio space, everyone is welcome here. Lynn Koning, Resident Potter, will give lessons to anyone interested! Just fill out this form to express your interest in participating. Please be mindful that the pottery process will take at least one month from start to finish, so plan accordingly. Visit our Calendar to find out when bisque and glaze firings happen.
Week 1-2: Throw or hand build your pottery piece and allow it to dry gradually on the drying shelves. After your piece is completely dry, carefully bring it to the kiln room and we will bisque fire it.
Week 3: Once your piece has been bisque fired, you can glaze it using underglaze, overglaze, or Stroke & Coat glaze. After it is glazed, we fire it again in a glaze fire.
Week 4: When your piece comes out of the kiln from glaze firing, you’ll need to pick it up from the studio.
To ensure we can continue to accommodate all our artists and their creations, we kindly ask that you pick up your finished pieces within 60 days once it has been glaze fired. After this period, uncollected items will be donated to the community studio and made available for sale at our local events to help make space for new projects.
Studio Rules
- Please sign in when you arrive.
- Be respectful towards others. Rude behavior will not be tolerated.
- If you’re unsure about something, ask an instructor or fellow studio member. The community is very supportive and would be happy to assist you.
- Please discard clay into the recycling container. Less clay in the sink drain is a good thing.
- We only have one sink, so plan your clean-up time accordingly.
- When glazing, put newspaper under your pot and wipe down the bottle if needed before returning it to its designated location on the shelf. *If you empty a glaze jar, please place it in the container labelled Empty Glaze Jars so we know what glazes to order next*
- Wash your brushes, buckets, and any supplies that you use and put them away after.
- Clean up and wipe down your area (wheel or table).
- Put your name on your clay. Name and date your pieces (sticky notes are available for labelling).
- Any unused clay left for 60 days or longer will be reclaimed by the studio.
- By participating in Play in the Clay Studio, you agree to the Studio Rules.
